Thank you for visiting my website.

Here is a little more about me…

Since I was born I have always been surrounded by vintage buses, it’s really in my blood. By the time I was 16 I had saved up my pocket money and bought my first classic bus. I just love restoring and painting these old buses up and bringing them back to life!

Over the years I have owned around 8 classic buses, my favourite that I restored being a 1956 AEC Regent V ROD 765 which I have now sold to one of my clients. I found myself working on my clients vehicles more than my own, so “ROD” needed to go to a good home. It’s new owner will have the time to take it to Rallies which makes me happy. So after working as the chief engineer until 2007 for Halifax Joint Committee on an impressive fleet of Routemasters and MCW Metrobuses, I changed things up and moved to Stagecoach. At Stagecoach I worked on Dennis Darts, Dennis Tridents, Volvo Olympians and Leyland Olympians. Whilst I really enjoy the engineering side of things, I found a lot of private collectors starting to contact me to restore and paint their collection. I became in demand and once a bus I had traditionally coach painted turned up at a rally, the phone started to ring and has continued. This was a dream for me as I never thought I would be able to work on vintage buses every day of the year, my own business, my now day job doing something I am extremely passionate about.

I do regular restoration, coach painting and mechanical work for the ever popular The Yorkshire Heritage Bus Company Ltd who have a collection of 17 vintage buses I work on.

I also recently repainted a 1929 Exeter Corporation Maudslay for WHOTT, photographs can be seen in my portfolio.

It is so fulfilling working on old vehicles mechanically and cosmetically. The before and after photographs and the look on my clients faces when a job is completed, its what I love.

I have been running “Ashley Blackman” for 5 years now and I certainly don’t regret going into this full time.

Out of work I am an avid traveller, so driving 200 miles to your vehicle for work doesn’t phase me, have a sweet tooth and drink a lot of tea. I collect classic American cars with my wife Kirstin. I also co-run “Kirstin Halstead” a PR, Marketing and Events Company. Kirstin also runs “Ashley Blackman” working alongside me. With our different skills we make a dream team attending to our clients needs and requests.

Ashley has been brought up from a young age restoring and painting his fathers and then moving onto his own private collection of preserved buses. Having a successful career as a qualified mechanic at international bus operator Stagecoach and independent operator Halifax Joint Committee which ran a fleet of Routemasters in regular service. It is safe to say Ashley has the confidence and versatile skillset to work on an impressive catalogue of vehicles old and new. To name a few…AEC’s including Routemasters and RT’s, Leyland’s, Guy’s, MCW Metrobuses, Dennis Darts, Dennis Tridents, Bristols and Leyland Olympians.
