Philip Platt - Devon

‘I have been actively involved in the restoration of historic buses and coaches for over 50 years. In that time, I have learnt the importance of thorough preparation of bodywork prior to repaint and that the fast disappearing art of brush-painting vehicles is a skill which many aspire to and attempt but only a few perfect.

Having seen the high standard of paint finish that Ashley achieved in painting the historic double-deck buses belonging to his father and himself, I recently decided to entrust the repaint of my Harrington ‘Cavalier’ bodied coach to him. Furthermore, I have also recommended his services to fellow vehicle preservationists and they have all been extremely pleased with the results.

As they say ‘ you get what you pay for’ and thus whilst Ashley may not be the cheapest, his painstaking attention to detail, including the use of top quality paints and brushes, means you will be unlikely to be disappointed with the result.’

Denis Chick - Birmingham

‘So the decision is made, Devon General number 9 needs a red repaint? Shall we give it a try – no, we’ve just seen a paint job by Ashley Blackman and we are simply not that good.

To watch Ashley in action is simply watching not just a craftsman but yes, an artist creating another masterpiece. With good preparation, Ashley will definitely create an exclusive masterpiece for you – a glass like finish using the best materials and plenty of coats and an outcome that will not just impress but astound you and your enthusiast public. Using quality materials and brushes (no brushmarks at allby the way), the result will not fail to please – guaranteed! If you have just spent a fortune on a restoration, unless your name is Rembrandt then don’t try it yourself, contact Ashley – doesn’t your pride and joy deserve it?’

‘I am pleased and fortunate to have had Ashley do work on a number of my buses over recent years. Bournemouth Corporation Transport No 167 is going to Yorkshire soon for him to finish off restoration I am totally confident it will be an excellent job one I will be proud of for many years.’

‘I would like to convey my thanks and also recommend the services of Ashley Blackman who has carried out a number of mechanical repairs to my 1966 AEC Renown double decker bus during the past year. Ashley with his contacts within the bus industry and experience in dealing with the more vintage vehicle has been able to source and fit a number of items including new rear suspension levelling valves, diesel lift pump and injector pipes, the latest task has been to remove the clutch system to replace a worn out Clutch plate. Finding someone who understands the workings of the vehicle manufactures types of days past like AEC, Leyland and then who is then available to travel to your storage site to work on your vehicle is a real bonus. Ashley’s work has been carried out at a competitive price and done in a very efficient manner, all which is helping to keep my piece of classic British machinery on the road.’

Tony Blackman - Yorkshire

‘As probably the North of Englands, leading hirer of vintage buses it is essential that we project a first class image of appearance and reliability. For this reason it has been our decision to utilise the services of Ashley Blackman from the outset of our operations. Not only is he a first class coach painter where the end result is such that you really can see your face in the paint work, but his talents don’t end just there. He is not fazed by anything and possess excellent mechanical skills backed up by his ability to tackle any bodywork problems that may arise. You can tell Ashley Blackman paintwork. His paint job is the one that doesn’t display a horizontal brush line across the top of each panel.’

Andrew Pearson - Doncaster

‘Ashley restored my Leyland Greenway 6HLXB engine, to full running order.
His background understanding of historic engines, has become second nature as he diagnoses problems simply and efficiently, to minimize costs.
He works throughout the time, finding solutions impressively, on all aspects of restoration, be it to engine, transmission, chassis or bodywork.
I can’t imagine using anyone else, to service and maintain my vehicle and would recommend him to all preservationists, who require high standards.’

Philip & Bob White - Oxfordshire

‘We now have the test completed and have done two jobs since.  Both occasions saw high praise for your work for which we are most grateful.
We are very pleased with the end result. Your skills and professionalism were first class and we would certainly want you back if ever we can afford to refurb our other Hants and Dorset MW.’

Paul & Rachel Fielding - Lancashire

‘We would have no hesitation in recommending Ashley Blackman for both traditional bus bodywork and skilled mechanical engine and drive line work that he carried out for us during August, Spetember and October 2014 plus various dates in 2015.
Our specific work requirement was on a 1949 Blackburn Corporation Guy Arab III double deck bus with a wooden framed Crossley Body.
Ashley undertook repairs and replacement to flooring and the complete back open platform including heavy angle iron framework, timber floor constuction, grip slats and edges.
The Gardner 6LW oil engine, mountings, radiator and clutch were changed by Ashley using basic lifting tackle and tools. The resulting arrangements all worked perfectly first time.
We think that Ashley can be trusted to carry out first class work at a reasonable price in a reasonable time.
We have no hestation in recommending Ashley to carry out any work either mechical, structural or and bodywork and complete to the highest standards’
